- Our second year of “Challenge Yourself, Change the World,” funded by Girl Scouts of the USA, USDA: Girls in Rural Communities Program, United Way of the Flint Hills, and donors like you is underway. Currently girls are forming teams and gathering adult advisors to help them through their projects.
- We had an exciting training camp that took us to Matfield Green, Strong City, Cottonwood Falls, Romona, Tampa, and Sedan Kansas. Girls traveled throughout the state to meet social entrepreneurs.
- Projects from last year include the G.U.M. Girls monthly activities (focused on 4 th grade girls) which includes sports, music and dance; a Juried Art Exhibit to show area youth’s talents; a cultural diversity awareness carnival during the 4th of July Celebration, Featured on Channel 49 News; Chase Gardens, a community garden in Chase County and The Garden Bugs, gardening services for residents of Chase County.
- Three girls were selected from 2006 Flint Hills participants to attend a “Challenge Yourself, Change the World” training in Portland, Oregon, Sarah Roemer, Hannah Stair, Emporia and Alexandria Sisson, Chase County. Girl Scouts of the USA is sponsoring their trip so that they may share with other girls from across the nation about their Challenge and Change projects. These girls will also visit several area social entrepreneurships and other sites in Portland . Congratulations Sarah, Hannah and Alex!
